Tokyo to screen Iran's 'Hafez'

Japan's Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography is scheduled to screen Iran's award-winning Hafez by filmmaker Abolfazl Jalili.

The museum's movie theatre will screen 'Hafez' on January 19, officials said.

The innovative film portrays the 14th century Persian poet's forbidden love for his mentor's daughter Nabat and offers an interpretation of the thoughts and ideas of the renowned poet.

In an interview with Japan's Sankei Shimbun newspaper on Thursday, Jalili said 'Hafez' was mainly aimed at creating global awareness of Hafiz and his contribution to the world.

Featuring Japanese actress Kumiko Aso, Japanese producer Yuji Sadai and Iranian co-producer Shahram Golparian, the film was highly prized at numerous international festivals.
